You can listen to the MP3s above but the song uses 4 basic chord shapes and a picking technique that uses the regular flatpick to strum and play notes but the additional finger picking the high E string makes this a hybrid picking technique. This song is a nice break from most fingerpicked blues songs and has a little more of a contemporary sound. My first lesson of 2007 and it's the best one yet. I don't think I've ever had a lesson that flows this well and covers all the details as throughly. Includes instructions and demonstrations on the original Sam Chatmon delta style as well as many other ways to play it including strumming or flatpicking. 3 songs in this triple lesson. Two in the key of E and one in G. This is a great technique to start off with thumbpicking since your thumb is only picking one bass string at a time and not alternating like the Travis picking method. It's a very earthy old style of playing blues and I have taken these licks and styles from famous artists such as Lightnin' Hopkins and Mance Lipscomb. One song is in the style of Scratch My Back which is a heavily grooving E tune. The other E tune is one I call "Walkin in E" which works up the fretboard a little bit.
